About

About Probate

As of the edition of 20 October 2026, Probate holds 17,976 drugs, 604,331 registered trials and the companies behind them, and shows where a company needs a new molecule.

What it is

Probate is a database of every company’s drug pipeline, past and present, built on the clinical trial register and the approval registers. For each company it shows what it took to a target, what became of it, and where it would have a reason to want something new: a drug that failed or went quiet while the company stayed in the field (route A), or a marketed drug with no successful follow-on of its own (route B).

What the public pages are

The pages for drugs, companies, targets and years of US protection show the facts of one thing: its status, its approvals, its trials, the year its US protection ends. They show how many companies are on a route, and name the first few. Which other companies, how strongly and on what evidence is the paid product.

How the pages are made

Every sentence on these pages is built from the recorded facts of the edition by fixed rules; no language model writes the text of a page. A person reads each group of new pages before it is offered to search engines. Each page says which edition it is from, and the sources are named. If a page is wrong, the “Report an error” link on it goes to a person.

Where the facts come from

ClinicalTrials.gov for trials; the FDA Orange Book and Purple Book and other approval registers for approvals and US protection; ChEMBL, UniProt and Pharos for drugs and targets. The method page lists every source and what the list is known to miss.
